In a bid to promote Nakuru County as a premium tourism destination, the Directorate of Tourism and Culture in partnership with NaxCity Kenya Ltd, launched a digital marketing campaign dubbed TEMBEA NAKURU.
Nakuru County remains a prime destination for Business (MICE) Tourism, Sports Tourism, Agro-Tourism, Religious Tourism, Education and Health Tourism, Cultural Tourism, as well as Speculative, Leisure and Adventure Tourism; and arguably a hotbed epicenter of Hospitality in Kenya with significant contribution to Kenya’s GDP.
NaxCity has set out to undertake an activation exercise that will see over thirty tourism sites in Nakuru County unpacked and packaged for domestic tourism consumption to bridge the gap of tourism marketing in the County. In addition, through the Campaign’s digital platforms, stakeholders in the hospitality business will be also be featured.
During the launch held at Sarova Woodlands Hotel Nakuru, the Tourism CECM emphasized the campaign’s role in giving Nakuru a competitive edge in tourism, urging stakeholders to collaborate in the marketing efforts.
Shell Kenya – a franchise of VIVO Energy sponsored the Campaign with fuel to facilitate mobility during the production of tourism documentaries, citing it as a noble initiative towards unpacking tourism assets that will significantly attract domestic, regional and international tourists to visit Nakuru County and in-turn, boost Nakuru businesses.
Sarova Hotels Nakuru’s Cluster General Manager – Mr. Duncan Mwangi, noted that the initiative will create significant impact for the Hospitality sector through bed conversions and conference uptake, calling upon industry stakeholders to seize the opportunity to collaborate with the Directorate through NaxCity Kenya in their tourism marketing efforts.
His sentiments were echoed by GRATO’s Chairperson – Jane Karanja who commended the County for launching the campaign, urging for exploration of hidden gems and promotion of the rich Eco-Tourism in Nakuru County.
Other stakeholders who partnered and were present during the launch include; Kenya Wildlife Service, Nakuru Tourism Association, Great Rift Association of Tour Operators (GRATO), Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK), Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA), Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Utamaduni Nature Park and Mwaura Properties Ltd, who aim to leverage and support the campaign in rolling out.
NaxCity Kenya Ltd, a registered marketing agency based in Nakuru will support the Directorate in documenting known and hidden tourism attraction sites, and will publish these features on dedicated campaign digital platforms; Website (www.tembeanakuru.co.ke), YouTube (Tembea Nakuru) and Social Media.
The launch was attended by over sixty industry players, who were treated to a pizza stop-over at Jajemelo Pizza at Shell Kenya gas station in Barnabas, and officially flagged off by the County Tourism Chief Officer for site visits at Kariandusi pre-historic site and Utamaduni Nature Park in Gilgil.
